September 9th - Cosmic Rhythm

  • Sherlocks 508 State Street Erie, PA, 16501 United States (map)

The goal of Cosmic Rhythm is put a smile on those who play or listen.

A couple of old friends who reconnected on Facebook decided to get together and strum a few tunes when the other moved back to town. They both had a passion for the jam based styling's of the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and Phish. Prior to that first session, a few other players were called to round out the ensemble. We seemed to mesh from the beginning, and there were no big personalities to get in the way of fun! Getting the right chemistry in the group was (is) a big deal. After some good friends chose to travel a different path, but with an open invite to join in the fun, the current line-up was formed. The band is made up of individuals with various personalities who align perfectly to the context of Cosmic Rhythm.

We play music that is fun, upbeat, spontaneous, and that will make a crowd move a bit. The Rhythm section includes Eric H. on Bass, bringing funk and groove. Vigs compliments the rhythm section with the simplistic, yet funkadelic, grooves on percussion and guitar. Stan brings the rock time and swing behind the kit. He keeps the motion flowing. Make no mistake, we are a rock and roll band, and Eric can play an aggressive, yet melodic guitar solo. He is the type of player that can transform lyric into spoken phrasings from his 6 string. Josh adds the depth of the sound with his rhythm guitar. He plays from a subtle, yet commanding space that allows the groove to progress. The whole sound sits nicely on top of a bed of keys tickled by Chris. His subtle, yet poignant style provides that fullness to the song. Once all these elements take shape the crisp and uncompromising vocals emerge. Mike can deliver lo, high, and falsetto ranges that make you want to watch. Our approach to covers is “kinda-like”, not exactly as the original... and our originals are true to our name. We also enjoy having guests join us from time to time, especially our quasi members Garrett on theremin and Rayna on sax. Together we have a sound that is our own, a sound that guides people toward a good time.

We play for most any occasion: bars, parties, festivals, and business type events. As long as you want to hear some music that fails to follow the 3 minute format and are not afraid to go down the jam based road, you’ll be okay!
